NBWC Provides Gifts for Guardian Ad Litem Children

Gale Horne and Liz Maravelas

Forty- seven children in Craven County had a brighter Christmas this year thanks to the generosity of the New Bern Woman’s Club.  According to Gale Horne, GAL District Administrator for Craven, Carteret and Pamlico Counties, these children are all under the supervision of the court and have been placed with other family members – mostly grandparents –  who often do not have the financial resources to provide for much besides the basic necessities.  All of the children in the program who live in Craven County received articles of clothing, toys and books, beautifully wrapped and chosen with care by the members of the club.  1st VP Liz Maravelas, who has chaired this drive for the last 8 years, said, “It makes me proud to belong to such a wonderful club that supports our local community with open arms”.

Education Dept. Donates to New Bern Boys & Girls Club

The New Bern Woman’s Club – Education Department recently presented a check to the New Bern Boys & Girl’s Club for $600!

Regional Vice President Dre’ Nix said, “It’s so awesome to have these kinds of partnerships within the community. Every dollar means so much to our organization, and we can’t express enough gratitude for it.”

The New Bern Boys & Girls Club is a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plains.  In October the New Bern Club turned two years old and would like to invite everyone to partner with them in their mission to enable all youth, especially those that need us most to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.

New Bern Woman’s Club is pleased to announce our 2017 Club Woman of the Year – Katherine Fannin

Ms. Fannin has been active in the club as Newsletter Editor, Holly & Ivy Chairman, 2nd Vice President of Membership and, for the last 4 years, has served as President of the New Bern Woman’s Club.

One of her most rewarding contributions  has been the creation of the NBWC website, which serves as a valuable link between the club and the community.  She was also instrumental in establishing an ongoing relationship with the newly-established  New Bern Boys & Girls Club.

We congratulate Katherine and applaud her commitment and dedication to the New Bern Woman’s Club.
