On June 23rd, 2025, the New Bern Woman’s Club and the Craven Community College Financial Aid office held a ceremony on the grounds of the Craven Community College to present two Memorial scholarships and one Education scholarship, due to the great success of our 2024 Holly and Ivy Tour. Each scholarship is worth $2500. The two recipients of the NBWC Memorial Scholarship are Khanh Tran and Eileen Hamilton and the recipient of the NBWC Education Scholarship is Xylia Flowers. Khanh Tran is a working wife and mother who has taken the famous words of Martin Luther King, Jr. in his “I Have A Dream” speech to encourage her to go back to school to become a mechanical engineer and design powerful aircraft. She is using the knowledge she is obtaining at Craven Community College to build a solid foundation in engineering principles and expanding her math capabilities. Upon completing her associate’s degree, she plans to attend NC State University. Eileen Hamilton is a single mother of three boys. She currently works as a substitute teacher for eighteen preschoolers. This fall she plans to return to full time employment working with preschool or exceptional children while earning her degree in Early Childhood Education. She looks forward to growing as an educator and professional while helping children learn and thrive. Xylia Flowers is currently working toward an associate’s degree in nursing. She particularly wants to become a registered nurse and work for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit or Intensive Care Unit of a hospital. She plans to complete her Bachelor of Science in nursing within three years.
On May 1st, 2025, the New Bern Woman’s Club presented scholarship certificates to Mason Wood and Sophia Ruiz. Each received $2,500 which will be provided to their selected college to help with financial aid towards their college tuition. Mason graduated from New Bern High School and plans to pursue a degree in Aerospace Engineering at North Carolina State University. Sophia graduated from New Bern Christian Academy and plans to pursue a degree in marketing from Anderson University in South Carolina. The scholarship submission is open to seniors in high school or Craven Early College who meet the application criteria. It is awarded based on the candidate’s character, scholastic records, evidence of intellectual promise, demonstration of ambition, leadership ability, and need for financial assistance.

She has been a member of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain – New Bern Teen Center since 2017 and is a graduate of Class of 2024 at New Bern High School.
