New Bern Woman’s Club Launches Vial of Life Project
The New Bern Woman’s Club, in partnership with Craven County Emergency Services and the New Bern Police Department, is initiating the Vial of Life Project, a free life-saving program designed to provide personal information to first responders, in the area.
If you or a loved one is unable to communicate when emergency medical responders arrive at your home, the information found in the vial saves valuable time. The project has already saved hundreds of thousands of lives, according to information on the Vial of Life nonprofit agency’s official website.
The New Bern Woman’s Club will begin this program by providing startup vials to senior citizens living at home and by providing training to civic groups, neighborhoods, and churches so that they may assist their communities.
“This life-saving program is used in many areas of the country with great success,” said club President Marcy Riordan. “We urge other groups to learn about this important program and help us spread awareness so that New Bern will soon be among those success stories.”
Vial of Life is a home medical emergency kit designed to benefit seniors and those with chronic illness. It includes a decal placed on a front window or door that alerts the responder that health information can be found in a medicine vial in the refrigerator or in a bag attached to the refrigerator with a magnet. Inside the vial is a form that has all critical information such as current medications, current health diagnosis, past health information, contact information, medical insurance information, and patient’s health wishes.
